In a septic system where gravity is not sufficient to move wastewater, an effluent pump is needed, which moves wastewater from the tank into the leach field at specific intervals. These intervals are controlled by the dosing system. A float or series of floats measure water levels and signals the dosing system to pump water out once the wastewater has reached a certain level in the tank. The purpose of the dosing system is to minimize the risk of flooding the septic tank or the leach field.
